30 young people that will form the pilot group of trainees for the Initiative for building the new generation of civic leaders are selected.

The participants come from various civil society organizations: human rights watches, environment protection, ecology and education supporters to youth initiatives proponents. All of them are unified by the motivation to improve their skills and knowledge in order to enhance the organizations that they work for.

The trainees are selected by WCIF staff on the basis of formal criteria compliance, their motivation for development in the civil sector and a preference for proficiency in English language and experience in managing a civil organization. In the selection process it was also taken into consideration whether the candidate comes from a NGO from disadvantaged region or representing vulnerable groups in the population. After the received applications were reviewed and scored the candidates were informed of the results from the competition.

The successful candidates will be trained in the period 2019 – 2021. In the beginning of July, the first training will gather the participants to get acquainted with each other and build a personal development plan. The trainees will then undergo a series of online trainings, divided into four thematic modules-from global issues and local solutions, through fundraising and strategic communications to impact assessment. At the end of each thematic module they will work on a practical assignment, for the completion of which they will rely on mentors.

The Initiative for building the future generation of young civil society leaders is implemented by „Workshop for Civic Initiatives“ Foundation (WCIF) and is aimed at facilitating the development of the next generation of civic leaders in Bulgaria, who have the knowledge and skills to work effectively in an environment of shrinking civil society and limited resources.
