As part of the program of the Initiative for Building the Next Generation of Civic Leaders, online training meetings are held every first Wednesday of the month for one hour. During one such training session, the participants of the second edition of the Initiative were posed the question 'Why is it important to be accountable and transparent in their work in the civil sector?' and received the answer by Iliyana Nikolova, Executive Director of the WCIF. She shared her experience on the topic, accumulated over years of work in the sector.

Iliyana clarified the importance of the two concepts and emphasized that detailed information shared with the wider public about the activities of an organization should be its top priority if it wants people to vote for its trust and support the causes it stands for.

Another topic of the meeting was the shared values within a nonprofit organization and the method for their specification based on professional and ethical standards, namely:

• Rules of Procedure
• Accounting policy
• Conflict of interest policy
• Code of Ethics
• Children's policy

The participants of the meeting were challenged to choose a professional or ethical standard that has not yet been developed by their organizations and try to create one. The moderator of the meeting promised support and guidance for all active young leaders.

The training is part of the second edition of the "Initiative for Building the Next Generation of Civic Leaders" project by Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation. It is funded by the Active Citizens Fund Bulgaria under the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area (EEA FM) 2014-2021, provided by Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. The project aims to support the development of a new generation of civil leaders in Bulgaria who have the knowledge and skills to work effectively in a shrinking space for civil society and limited resources.
